it has been discussed before, do a search.
Basically you need to find the complete setup from a wrecked later model FJ45 or BJ42 and be prepared to do a bit of fabrication as the 2H was never fitted with power steering in a HJ47 due to clearance problems between the power steer pump and the chassis.
Also ensure you get ALL of the idlers and tie rods as they are of heavier/solid construction compared to manual steer vehicles. Depending on your vehicle you may also need the steering column as well.
I have seen 60 series setups adapted but you need to get the whole column and steering box and even more fabrication for the whole setup as the box is out the front.

I tried to do it on mine, as did the previous owner... far too much pfaffing around and not enough room in the engine bay.

Basically, you could do it, but the exercise was becoming more than the vehicle is worth... so I dropped it. You could do it if you dropped in an alternate engine, but with the 2H in place p.i.t.a....

In all my travels, I've asked a number of folks who owned HJ's .... they all said it was too hard and not worth the effort.

I bought one of the last HJ47's in early 85 after the 75's were released (was a good price and the best Tojo out of seven that I owned) and I asked then why no power steering where it was available on the 45's (petrol engine) and was told that the pump wouldn't fit to the 2H because the chassis rails were too narrow and it wasn't worthwhile redesigning at the end of the model.

For absolutely anything you have ever wanted to know about 40 series cruisers try.
ih8mud.com no Australian site like it and lcool won't do a 40 series section (I've asked)

2H forget it, 2f much easier, 3B most came with it, V8 easy. in the USA they like to fit 1HZ's and 60 series pwr steer but very tight tolerences similar to the 2H.

Evening all.

I have pwr steering on my HJ47.....easy to fit and no trouble at all...took four hours to fit and all is working well.......the pump fit's on the 12HT motor ok and i have the HJ60 box fitted....also adjusted the outlet on the radiator to a different angle and made it longer so the pully didn't rub on the hose...i also have a compleet set of pwr steering for the BJ40 at home, which will fit all the early tojo's.

Cheers for now...Williamh...Bunbury...WA.

William,

Don't doubt it ... but my original comment still stands...

It doesn't fit in there well with a 2H motor...

The 12HT and the 2H block are the same, so the pwr steering pump is the same, and fit's in the same place on each motor.and is easy to do.

Yes you can fit a power steer to a 47. Had one on mine for 5 years befor I sold the vehicle in 2001,

60 series pump and a engine mount/bracket off a 45. New steering shaft from Toyota, new front pully. outlet on bottom of radiiator angled to miss pully.

Plenty of room for it all to fit.

Use the hoses off the 60 series pump to steering box. And you can go to a smaller steering wheel.
